Yellowstone Pictures Posted

Well, it has taken a few weeks, but I finally chose 86 of my best Yellowstone pictures to post on Flickr. There are many more great shots, but I needed to limit the uploads. You can see them with the Flickr link. When you get to my Flickr page look for the set of pictures called Yellowstone 2010. I hope you enjoy them. The next phase will be using some of these photos to create new paintings.

Preparing for Winter

Spent most of the last two days getting ready for winter. I cleaned leaves and cedar needles off the roof, secured the down spouts to keep them from slipping off, and other minor details. We also picked up some burlap coffee bags to use to cover our P-Patch garden for the winter.

We spent some time dealing with computer connectivity in preparation for traveling. The air card we tested last month worked fine, but AT&T can’t decide whether it can be suspended when not in use. Each person we speak to gives us a different answer. Therefore, today we began shopping for alternatives to keep us connected and blogging while in remote places.

The Next Journey

Yesterday we created a space to collect what we need for our next trip. Three tables and much floor space should be enough for art supplies, photography equipment, clothes, food, and other miscellaneous items.

We also received a shipment of small canvas boards for plein air painting. These will go with the art supplies. How many boards to take? One a day? We also have to factor in paper pads for watercolor and pastel paper. Decisions, decisions, decisions.

Art Retrospective

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

As a part of preparing my studio for my retirement career of painter I reviewed my completed works from the last 8 years. It was like meeting old friends. Each painting evoked memories of inspiration, perspiration, and (in some cases) frustration. Here are a few examples. Others will soon be posted on my art web site. Watch here for the announcement and the link.

The Adventure Has Begun . . .

. . .  Well, the part that has begun is learning what it’s like to be around each other 24/7.  So far it’s like being on vacation . . . it’s only been a week, after all.  But the vacation won’t end this time . . . and that’s where the adventure begins.

Hope you all will enjoy coming along on the trip.

Your Comments Are Coming, I Hope

I’m having difficulty getting your comments to post on the blog. At this point I don’t know if I’m doing something wrong or if the site is having software difficulties. Your comments aren’t lost. I can see them and they will be posted as soon as I can figure out what’s happening.

Last week I retired. My friends gave me two parties. You will find a few pictures from those parties at my Flickr page linked on the right.

Creative Ruts

As a writer, musician, photographer, and an artist I sometime experience the dreaded creative rut. For me the solution is often to change medium of creative expression. Each medium requires a slightly different way of looking at the world. In a creative rut? Try a different activity that makes you use other “eyes.”

Learning

I’m still getting the hang of retirement from a day job. What day is it?

Also learning more about blogging. Today I plan to get some art work online to share. It seems I have more to do now than ever before.
