A Beautiful Day in The Kananaskis Country

My oil painting class ended Monday, so blog posts can resume. I was simply working too hard for those five days to think about blogging in the evening. Yesterday it stormed here all day. We tried to go out, but were driven back indoors by the weather. I have included one photo taken during that foray outside.

Today was a different story. We woke up to clearing skies and decided to drive up into the Kananaskis area, which has become one of our favorite places here. This wild area covers miles of mountain wilderness. Two provincial parks, many lakes, snow-covered mountains, and abundant wildlife are the attractions here. We weren’t disappointed today.

At the south end of the Kananaskis loop we drove south on Hway 40 to Highwood Pass. This drive has stunning views of the peaks. It was windy and cool at the pass where we stopped for a hike and then settled down to sketch the mountains. On the way back down the Kananaskis loop we stopped at several places to take photographs. What a tremendous day!

About Paul

I'm retired, but working at painting, photography, and song writing. We like to travel and paint plein air in new places. Of course that's also where photography comes into the picture, so to speak. Sometimes I get inspired to write songs about the people and places we visit.
